ABSTRACT
The problem this study seeks to address is five-fold: the difficulty to access farming lands due to insecurity, the access to market, lack of farming tools, the lack of financial resources, problem of pests and storage which often leads to loss of harvest. The research method used in this study is quantitative, and data was collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to the inhabitants of the Babessi Sub division. The study found that the government plays a great role in the contribution of self-food sufficiency in that area and also motivates the farmers of the area. Most farmers also testified that government grants them motivational equipment for their farming. However, many farmers in that area complained of bad roads leading farm to markets and also complained of diseases which affects their seeds and hence, cry out to government to look into it. The study also found out that there are several crops cultivated in this part of the country such as trice, maize, potatoes, cassava etc. In additionally, the government has to take measures to provide good seeds for planting, suitable agricultural equipment and especially appropriate training for the farmers of the Babessi sub division.
