ABSTRACT
Beach and coastal tourism are considered to hold the largest market sector of tourism worldwide. The main objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of beach management strategies in promoting coastal tourism along the Limbe I coastline. Data were collected by adopting the primary and secondary methods for collecting data. That is by
using questionnaires, interview guides, journals, published and unpublished articles, online source among others. Data analysed through descriptive statistics are presents using tables,
charts, frequencies, and percentages. Findings reveals that the most attractive areas along the beach are the natural sand beaches, the beaches and the Ocean, eating of grilled fish and
shrimps, hotels and entertainment facilities, sightseeing tours/boating, sailing facilities, smoked/fresh fishes, photography, horse riding, wildlife and the flora and fauna of the
coastal zone, cultural facilities like: arts and crafts and shopping facilities, geological formations and canoeing. The strategies put in place by the government to ensure proper
functioning of Limbe down beach for coastal tourism are the employment of permanent workers to ensure regular cleaning of the beach, enforcement of security while construction
of toilet facility, renovation, provision of finance, sensitization, effective communication, building more recreational sites, putting bill boards and regular control. The problems faced
by the government and management in the proper functioning of down beach Limbe in promoting coastal tourism are dirtiness of the beach, inability to implement effective
sanitation laws and rules and regulation, insecurity, lack of coastal guidelines for security and protection, and lack of infrastructure. The recommendations here are the government should build modern infrastructures, provide more recreational facilities, and improve security for visitors.
