GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The study focuses on motivation as a key important instrument for the maintenance of the betterment and the continuity of an organization for the achievement of the organizational goal. For an organization to achieve this goal, there is the need for human resource management , and for this resources to be better utilize employees must be motivated so as to bring out the best in them there by making the organizational goals a priority. Motivation help to broaden the skills of an employee, moreover, if an employee is motivated he/she turn to be satisfied with his job this however will lead to increase in job satisfaction and when employees are satisfied with their job, productivity turn to increased.
At times dissatisfaction of job may help the manager to explore the need of their employees and from this, the manager may use as a starting point to motivate the employees, there by attracting better performance.
1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Motivation is a psychological process that gets employees going, keeping them going and determines the direction and strength of the effects they apply. Motivation is define as factors which induce people to act in a way so as to ensure the fulfillment of a particular task at a given time hind its creation is the desire to make profits, in order to achieve the objective, and for the organization to maintain the profitability and continuity of the organization, the organization turn to face competition.
This however has intensified the need to improve on the employee’s performance through motivating elements. Its is true that an organization cannot push through without the use of human resource management, as such Human resources turn to be very important as far as the organization is concern.
This however implies that the managers of an organization have to work together and collectively with its employees for the realization of the organizational goals.
Motivation may take various forms such as reword for service render, increase in salary, providing training among others. However, one of the important questions that one may ask is how to make the employee perform well? And in answering this question, many writers have established that the basic foundation for retaining a high performing employee is for the employee to be motivated.
This is so because a motivated employee will likely perform better and would likely be satisfied with his work. And also many researchers have argued that motivation is an important element in an individual employee and to the organization and that it is the most reason why people then to quit their jobs. It was for this reason that Frederick Herzberg quoted that ‘’If you want people to do a good job, give them a good job to do’’.
Following the fact that organizations are face with challenges it’s important for employers to always look for better and new ways to motivate their employees and it should also be noted that though motivation may act positively for the organization it may also act negatively towards the organization, as too much motivation may cause the employee to be lazy and unproductive.
